Sony is currently working on a new model for the PS3. This is shown in documents that were submitted by Sony to the Federal Communications Commission.
A new model might appear unnecessary, but developers are doing everything possible to expand the lifetime of a console, so a new model could help doing this…
The new model is part of the 4000-series, and will be even smaller than the original PS3 Slim, also known as the 3000-series. Sony has not yet announced the model, but according to Eurogamer, they will be doing this during the Gamescom-convention in Germany this month. The PS3 Slim was also announced at that convention in 2009.
