Microsoft announced its new tablet PC called Surface.
Surface will go head to head with Apple’s iPad and is Microsoft’s answer to the still growing tablet market.
People all over the world were wondering when/if Microsoft would ever release a so-called ‘iPad-killer’, today Microsoft announced Surface.
Surface will compete directly with the popular iPad but won’t be an exact clone. The biggest innovation is without a doubt the Type Cover. This cover won’t only protect your tablet but can change into a touch controlled keyboard. This way you can work on your Microsoft tablet just the way you would do on a regular PC, the tablet will also feature Office integration.
Microsoft Surface will come in two different types:
– The first one will be the cheapest one and runs on Windows RT system. It will be 9.3 milimeters thick and will be available in 32 or 64 gigabyte versions.
– The second version runs on the upcoming Windows 8 system and will have a 10.6 inch screen. It’s a little bit thicker, 13.5 milimeters but will be available in 64 or 128 GB.
The system will come with a stand and you can choose to click on the extra Touch Cover or Type Cover. Using the Touch Cover you can control Surface using gestures. The Type Cover gives you a keyboard.
A price isn’t released yet but Microsoft said it would be a very ‘competitive price’.

If what they said yesterday is true then this will be the first real tablet to integrate real full PC functionality. For me that is important as this tablet will probably support Flash and external hardware such as a digital DJ controller. With its i5 processor it should be able to run Virtual DJ without problems… I will definitely buy the better version if the above is tue for me! ^^ Waiting for the full hands on and reviews (also support of third parties!) but this is definitely a step forward for tablet/ultrabooks
