NEWS: Nintendo, EA and Sony no longer support SOPA

Nintendo, Electronic Arts and Sony Electronics have cancelled their support for the controversial American Stop Online Piracy Act.

SOPA has encountered lots of resistance on the internet. With these laws, the American government would be able to crash every American website that’s being suspected of copyright violation.

Sites would also be responsable for their users. This means that if a user uploads a copyright protected item onto the site, the site can be taken offline.

The heavy resistance has lead to the fact that Nintendo, EA, Sony Electronics and earlier Microsoft have cancelled their support. This is not applicable for all the parts of Sony: the different music branches still support the law.

Another reason for the cancelling of their support could be the threat made by Anonymous, the hackergroup responsable for the Playstation Network outage, last year. They had threatened to crash the PSN again, if Sony proceeded with their support for SOPA.
