The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is one of those Zelda games that really are different.
Link’s Awakening had a very different story and setting than previous Zelda games. The reason for that is that Link’s Awakening is actually a sequel to a lesser known Japanese game.
Link’s Awakening is based on the Japanese game “The Frog for Whom the Bell Tolls”. Instead of being a sequel to previous Zelda games, Awakening is more like the sequel to TFWBT.
One of the characters, prince Richard , even makes a cameo appearance in Link’s Awakening.
