Zelda: Fun fact day 17

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is one of the most loved Zelda games ever made but also one of the most loved third person adventure game.

But did you know that Ocarina of Time was originally planned to be a first person adventure game?

Koizumi (one of the developers that started creating Ocarina of Time) once revealed in an interview that Miyamoto wanted the game to be playable in first person:

“In the beginning, he had the image that you are at first walking around in first-person, and when an enemy appeared, the screen would switch, Link would appear, and the battle would unfold from a side perspective.”

Koizumi however didn’t wanted the game to be a first person adventure. He putted a lot of effort into the Link model and would think it was a shame if gamer couldn’t see his creation.

“Link is cool, so I wanted to always be able to see him.”

Thanks to some new innovations like the Z-button targeting while in combat, made it possible that Ocarina of Time remained a third person adventure. The Z-button was invented to make battling in third person possible.
