I am still really enjoying playing Fallout 3, and after numerous hours of travelling the wasteland I decided to try out a few of the DLC expansions. Being an early PS+ subscriber I am lucky enough to have all 5 packs which were made available for free last year. The first DLC pack I ventured into was Point Lookout.
The mission starts with a distressed mother asking you to look for her daughter Nadine who has left her mother and travelled to Point Lookout alone. It is your task to successfully find her and hopefully persuade her to return to her mother. After paying the fare for the boat trip to Point Lookout in no time you find yourself at a desolate harbour in a grim and dreary new world – not a place for the faint hearted. The atmosphere is tense and quite scary as you don’t know what to expect.
Shortly after your arrival you will discover a large mansion. It looks abandoned but after entering you will soon find it is far from that. Almost immediately you find yourself fending off tribals attacking the mansion. The fight for control of the mansion I can assure you is not an easy fight at all. If you successfully hold back the intruders you meet the current owner on the mansion. He’s a Ghoul by the name of Desmond. He is not a friendly character to say the least. From fighting off the tribals you find yourself travelling this new world in search for Nadine, to find out the secret to the tribals religion and to help the ghoul. As usual with Fallout missions there are different endings to the final quest. Overall it takes you a few hours to complete all missions at Point Lookout which is great for DLC.
In Point Lookout you will come across new enemies. The first of course is the tribals which are stronger than they look. The generally use melee combat and are resistant to bullets. Other than that there are smugglers dotted around the land, they are a group you really do not want to pick a fight with. As for creatures there are boat fly’s mireluckers and some peculiar looking reptile which basically vomits on you. I have been really impressed with the design of the full game and Point Lookout doesn’t disappoint. This is the same for the new types of environments from swamps to coastal cliffs and lighthouses. It looks great, but I feel it could be a little lighter in Point Lookout as sometimes it is too dark.
All in all, Point Lookout is a great expansion to Fallout 3 which new lengthy missions and a new fairly large world to explore which comes with new enemies and environments. Any Fallout fan should consider buying this expansion.

The second DLC I tried out was Mothership Zeta. I was travelling the wasteland when I approached what seemed to be a crashed space ship. Before I knew it I found myself being transported into the air in a blue laser. My character blacked out showing glimpses of what look like aliens. I woke to find myself in a cell without any of my equipment and partnered with a woman in the cell. She discusses breaking out of the cell and comes up with a genius plan to break out. It works! From then on your mission is to escape the alien space craft.
The whole DLC takes place on this space craft and you have to fight your way through the aliens to take control of it. The aliens themselves look quite funny, but you will stop laughing when you see the weaponry they use. It is powerful to say the least. The guns they use pack a lot of damage and once you have got your hands on them the aliens prove quite easy to take down. I have really had a lot of fun with this DLC pack. Exploring the space craft to find new weapons and objects was fun by itself. But the main action sequences against the aliens and their robots are great and like nothing you have ever seen before on Fallout.
The whole DLC takes again a few hours to complete and you will probably find that you have levelled up your character twice from earning XP. Similarly to Point Lookout the aliens and new environments are designed very well. As with both DLC I did experience two crashes which can surely be expected from a Fallout game due to its sheer size. Again I would recommend purchasing this DLC expansion as it has provided me with the most fun I have had on Fallout 3.

I hope to try the remaining three DLC’s for the game and give my opinion on them.

Aaa my good friend, looking back to my own gamer history on Fallout i can agree on the point that Fallout 3 DLC is by far the best pieces of DLC ive ever played. Because of its size in play, new epic weaponry and offcourse new enemys. In my own experience i found Point Lookout the better of the two because it was a bigger challenge and more diverse in enemys, etc.. btw you forgot to mention the Feral Ghouls who are also present there but overall nice review my friend.
With greets Killa 🙂
I found Point Lookout much bigger and longer, but much harder as well. I ran away from the swamps due to ghouls and smugglers so didn’t see much of them. Also trackers surprised me a few times. The alien disintergrator (spelling?) was awesome on the Mothership Zeta one though, I just loved the Aliens!
Still have Operation Anchorage, Broken Steel and another one which I have forgotten the name to, to play 🙂
The Pitt is the last one if my memory doesnt fail me. The aliens were very funny and i love their weapons as well. I love all the DLC for Fallout 3 but also Vegas and their DLC is pretty epic. other games could learn from this kind of DLC wich actually give more to the game then some DLC that we get nowadays.
Yeah the Pitt! So much depth and lenght to them, best value DLC out to be honest.
EDIT: yet to get any of the Fallout New Vegas DLC, hopefully plus does them for free
your gonna enjoy playing the New Vegas DLC as well, lengthy and always new enemys and crazy storys. I dont know what those people smoke in Bethesda but its some good sh*t 😛
PS. also new coowl weapons and armor. its a looters heaven
Dont have enough money for the DLC packs :O Good to hear though
