The multiplayer of Max Payne 3 contains story telling elements that are part of the world of Max. Dan Houder, co-founder of Rockstar, said that in an interview with Variety.
The developer hasn’t released a lot of details about the multiplayer, but in the interview, Houser refers to the online mode of Max Payne 3. He explains that, although the story of this is not a part of the campaign, it is part of the bigger picture.
“We want to put parts of the singleplayer in the multiplayer, to provide this of more detail.”
According to Houser, this makes sure that the game mode has its own character.
“We think this element is mostly forgotten in multiplayer games.”
